Practice-a-Thon and MAP: A match made in heaven

Prioritizing Practice in February 2022!

The Annual Practice-a-Thon is BACK. Students are committing to a 7-day marathon of practice, 15 minutes at a time. Breaking practice into smaller chunks of focus allows for deeper learning when distributed over time. Teachers are putting into practice what Dr. Lark Powers shared with us at our last monthly program in January about helping students “Practice Smarter, Not Longer!”

It’s timely, too, because our annual Music Artistry Program is coming up March 18-19 with Dr. Fabio Menchetti of Washington State University. Students are preparing two contrasting pieces to play for Dr. Menchetti, and he will hear and make suggestions to improve the students’ artistry and technique.

Those students who put energy and effort into a successful Practice-a-Thon will be well prepared for Dr. Menchetti.

There is a Pre-MAP recital on March 5 at Puyallup Community Baptist. Teachers who have students ready to perform one of their MAP pieces may enter their students in this event.

Teachers, the entry form for the March 5 recital may be found here.
